So I'm thinking about buying a Cicada...

Post by DemonRaziel »

...and since I'm prohibited from opening discussions about 'Mechs in the 'Mech Bay section ( :P ), I'm gonna ask here for suggestions. I'll only keep the 3M, obviously, and am pondering several possible builds (as displayed below):

Soooo... which one do you guys like the most and feel free to suggest some more builds for the 3M you think I ought to try (I've already seen Konsti's Thetys - not my cup of tea).

Thanks.

Speaking from my Cicada experience and under the point if view you don´t want something along the lines of the Thetys:

The first two (each with a PPC) would be way too hot in my experience. You would practically be forced to rely purely on ambushes and will suffer in long furballs. Additionally you have too much armour on the arms. Like way too much. Arms can go with 5 or 6 points even. Save tonnage there (you can even reduce the head for a few points) and maybe swap for an additional DHS. I´d still find them too hot though, even with 13 DHS.

The third one, with the AC/20 is too slow and has only 14 shots. (You forgot to add 2 DHS) Even if you would save an additional ton it´d be only 21 shots. Absolutely not enough to contribute much to the game and even more dependent on ambush scenarios.

In principle that all applies to the AC/10 build too, but less drastically. The lack of secondary weapons and the unneccessary 11th heat sink seem odd.

The last (AC/10) build looks way better. I would recommend to drop the armour on the arms to 4 points and the head to 16 and add another ton of ammo. As the AC is your only weapon with any range you will be using it alot before proper battle is even properly joined and even more copiously after that. Having to husband your ammo during the whole time is going to hurt your mid-game performance. 45 shots is the least you need.

Man, you are so right. I can reduce arms to 3 pts and have an extra ton to play with. Revised PPC/small laser builds and even more:
